The Couple:
I have known Alicia and Michael for several years. I have been blessed with the ability to know them both on a personal level and be a receiver of their pure kindness. Alicia and Michael are so sweet, caring, hardworking, and fun to be around. There is never a dull moment around these two and they are sure to keep smiles on the faces of everyone who surrounds them. I still can’t believe that they have been together for six years already! I have been lucky enough to photograph Alicia and Michael several times before, most recently (pre-wedding) for their engagement session. You can see that session here.
The Wedding:
Alicia and Michael were married on a gorgeous fall day at The Royer House in Westminster, Maryland. The week threatened rain but we stayed dry all day. The sun even came out and warmed the air and hearts as their ceremony began. They chose to braid the three cords during their ceremony as well as write their own vows to each other. It was so sweet watching each of them overflow with emotion as they expressed their true, whole, deep love to the other. I loved that Michaels vows were so sweet and heartfelt but that he also vowed to always make her laugh or at least try to even if the jokes get old. Alicia stated that Fate had a beautiful way of putting them on each other’s path – this filled my heart as I believe it really is so true.
They pulled the fall season into their wedding in several ways. The guestbook was a birch tree with falling leaves for the guests to sign, they had a caramel apple dipping station, and my favorite their favors were candles! But not just any candles, they were candles labeled “what’s that smell? It’s the Sullivans”. Too funny! Before you ask, no I did not smell the candles, and yes I do regret not smelling the candles.
They opened the dance floor to their reception witf the Father – Daughter and Mother – Son dances. As michael completed his dance with his mother, the DJ announced that they had a special guest. After a few seconds of silence, Michael looked back at his groomsmen and said “Uhhh I have no idea what he is talking about, really. What the heck is going on?” It was that moment that Lumière from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast walked into the reception. He grabbed Michael and sat him in a chair as Alicia and a few of her girlfriends entered and struck a pose. (To anyone who doesn’t know Alicia…. she LOVES disney. LOVES IT. So this was an extremely fitting entrance.) The music began and they performed a choreographed dance for him. It was EPIC!
Even with a chilly fall evening, Michael and Alicia were more than willing to head outside for sunset photos – the sunset was amazing. They hurried back in to warm up on the dance floor, take celebratory shots with friends and family, and live it up on their wedding night. A glowing path of sparklers and loved ones led them off into the night as Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan. Such a wonderful day. Congratulations to the newlyweds!!!
